GrindTec 2018 - The Trade Fair for superlatives
GrindTec 2018 - The trade fair for superlatives
14. March 2018
Augsburg – The worldwide leading platform of grinding technology has once more grown significantly. 643 exhibitors, 66 more than the last time, mean a plus of 11%. The occupied area has also increased correspondingly by 3,000m² up to 45,000m². In nine exhibition halls, two more than in 2016, the GrindTec presents the most comprehensive offer to date with many innovations and world premieres. And the GrindTec is becoming increasingly international: 44% (+2%) of the companies have their head offices abroad. With 30 participating countries GrindTec has here too achieved a new top figure.
GrindTec increasingly in the focus of Asian enterprises
Increasing numbers of companies from China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan or India see the GrindTec as the perfect trade fair for presenting their innovations on the world market. For them them GrindTec is the door to the world market. 30% of foreign participants are meanwhile from the Asian region; they are the actual growth motor of this special trade fair.
Switzerland is the leading foreign nation
A whole number of leading grinding technology providers are based in Switzerland. In 2018 too, they are the no. 1 amongst the international participants. With 67 exhibitors they are ahead of Italy (54 exhibitors); China follows in third place with 53 exhibitors. The USA takes fourth place with 16 participants, followed by Japan with 10 exhibitors.
GrindTec 2018: Overview of trade fair innovations at www.grindtec.de
In 2018 the GrindTec exhibitors have also had the opportunity of presenting their innovations on the trade fair‘s website. To make the service faster and more attractive for vistors, the red button “New Products” appears at the top right when www.grindtec.de/en/home.html is opened. This allows direct access to all innovations in alphabetical order.
A striking number of innovations or improvements can be seen in the field of grinding machines. Further developments here focus on better, faster and more economic work. The visitor can expect a very broad spectrum of machines which are shown partly in working mode at the booths. The range of abrasives has grown, for products in this niche are also gladly shown.
With machine periphery, innovations at the man/machine interface are presented, whereby the trend of using robot technology continues to prevail. Filtering technology plays an increasingly large role with new products and methods. An 8,000m³ filter system can even be seen at the GrindTec 2018.
New products and in part revolutionary methods are announced by the manufacturers of coolants and grinding oils. The automation of measurement procedures is also forging ahead, lightening the load of machine operators even more. At the same time these methods are becoming faster and more precise. The automatic feeding of machines as well as the removal of finished parts into temporary or permanent storage plays an increasingly greater role. The manufacturers of software for regulating machines are ready to make the leap to Industry 4.0: networking with companies‘ own ERP systems.
Sustainable changes in component manufacture are also being made through the megatrend of electromobility. The new automobile drive technology will soon require large quantities in oder to supply the market. Following this, due to further development and improvement measures, there will be fast adaptation of the production systems. Manufacturers of production resources must react here with flexible machine concepts. Exhibitors at the GrindTec 2018 are already presenting corresponding solutions for the rapidly changing conditions.
The producers of 5 axle tool grinding maachines continue to influence the trade fair profile. The greatest growth at the GrindTec, however, is in the field of conventional grinding machines for cylindrical, internal cylindrical and flat grinding as well as special grinding machines. The trend is for machines which can be used for small and medium-sized batches. This development thus caters for the increasing individualisation of products on the one hand and the trend of electromobilty on the other hand. Short auxiliary process or setup times will be just as decisive in these systems as the intuitive operability of user interfaces. These further developments basically focus on better, faster and more economic work.
GrindTec 2018 with two new halls
Two additional exhibition halls (halls 8 and 9) will be made available for the first time to the GrindTec with a total of 3000m². Important grinding technology companies will be showing their innovations here. And here in hall 8 is the starting point for the special theme of “Grinding technology 4.0” designed particularly for grinding shops. Exhibitors will be presented who are participating in the Grinding technology 4.0 competence leader, which is being published by the mav specialist journal of the Konrardin media group (hall 8, booth 8103) as an orientation aid for visitors.
FDPW – Grinding technology competence centre
Together with its French partner association SNAFOT, the FDPW Specialist Association of German Precision Tool Grinders will present itself in the conference centre of the Augsburg exhibition centre. This is also where the GrindTec Forum with its lectures on current branch themes and the Jakob-Preh school from Bad Neustadt as specialist school for cuttiing tool mechanics can be found. Together with the GrindTec Campus this association represents the cutting edge of research and development – the ideal complement to the comprehensive offer of the GrindTec exhibitors.
GrindTec Campus – cutting edge of research & development
Numerous research institutions are represented in the foyer of hall 1. These include the Competence Centre for Chipping Production of the University of Furtwangen, the Ruhr West University, the Institute for Chippiing Production (ISF) of the Dortmund Technical University, the Institute for Tool Machines and Factory Operation (IWF) of the TU Berlin, the IWT Bremen – Foundation Institute for Material Engineering, the Leibnitz University (IWF), the Rhineland Technical College Cologne GmbH – Institute for Tool and Production Technology and the WZL Tool Machine Laboratory of the RWTH Aachen.
Competition “Tool grinder of the year 2018” (15.03.2018)
Together with the ISOG Technology GmbH and the FDPW Academy, the specialist journal fertigung is looking for the “Tool grinder of the year 2018”. In addition to high technical competence and great manual skills, an eye for what is economically possible is also being sought for. The first part of the competition is about basics such as the knowledge of materials and tools, technology and processes; the five best from this first section go through to the final which will be held on 15 March at the GrindTec 2018. Here the competitors must programme and process a work piece at an ISOG grinding machine.
Easy trade fair preparation via the Internet
The GrindTec has become bigger again, so that planned preparation of a trade fair visit via the Internet is all the more important. The website www.grindtec.de can be accessed from every mobile device. In conjunction with free WLAN visitor access to the Augsburg exhibition centre, all functions of the GrindTec website can also be accessed easily on site. The following download services, amongst others, will be available: press information and photos, hall plans, activation of guest tickets, ticket shop (purchase of e-tickets or mobile passbook tickets) or the interactive exhibitor list/ exhibitor search.
WWK Arena – visitors’ parking parken, exhibitor festivities
As it was in 2016, visitors arriving by car can park only on the nearby car park of the FFC Augsburg’s WWK Arena. A free bus shuttle brings the guests directly to the two entrances of of the Augsburg exhibition centre. The section of the B17 between the Arena and the exhibition centre now has three lanes, so that the journey only takes a few minutes. The GrindTec 2018 exhibitors’ evening “A Night at the Arena” is taking place as in 2016 in the exclusive business area of the WWK Arena. The bus shuttle will of course be available for the guests of this festive evening.
This and other current information can be found on the GrindTec 2018 home page. It is recommended in any case to prepare one’s visit to the trade fair via the Internet.
