Prospects for the sector: GrindTec 2020 starts on 10 November
Augsburg - On 10 November 2020, GrindTec 2020, the leading industry forum for grinding technology, will start at the Augsburg Trade Fair Centre. As one of the first capital goods trade fairs after the lockdown in March, it is in the focus of the industry and the entire trade fair industry in Germany. As an international
specialist trade fair for grinding technology, it brings together supply and demand almost congruently.
A coordinated safety and hygiene concept for precisely these current times, ensures that such an industry-specific meeting place is held in a professional and responsible manner. Field-tested standards of other industries, such as gastronomy and retail, merge here to form a coherent overall concept.
Grindtec 2020 is an impressive industry show. Around 500 companies - including leading manufacturers - will bring a comprehensive range of products and services with many innovations to Augsburg. It will thus offer the metalworking industry the important and necessary platform that many have been longing for. At the same time, it is also expected to provide the first impulses for a revival of sales. In fact, GrindTec has proved
time and again in the past that, as the leading trade fair, it can also act as a source of impulses for the grinding technology companies.
GrindTec 2020: Experience grinding technology trends live
On 50,000 m² the approximately 500 exhibitors will present a comprehensive range of products and services with numerous innovations. A preview of the range of products and services at GrindTec 2020 will be provided by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilfried Saxler, Managing Director of the Precision Toolmakers' Association FDPW: "As the leading trade fair for new technologies in grinding, honing, lapping and polishing,
the coming GrindTec will bring the sector together again after a long time. In the direct
dialogue between visitors and manufacturers, new perspectives for tool grinding will
open up, which can lead the companies out of the crisis.
Impulses are provided by highly functional solutions and further developments such as
- hybrid grinding machine concepts that also integrate other manufacturing technologies
- additiveely manufactured flow-optimized cooling lubricant nozzles
- Direct drives in the grinding machine axes to improve dynamic stiffness and accuracyand to increase performance
- new 5-axis machine concepts for tool grinding
- Laser processing possibilities of diamond tools or diamond-coated tools.
The Corona crisis has clearly shown not only to the tool grinding industry that digitalization, networking and automation are indispensable. Currently, many new business models are emerging that have enormous economic potential. Creating added value in production technology at the same time in different places in the world is only possible with a modern network economy. The manufacturers of machines and peripheral systems, of process and tool technology have developed answers to these questions, which they will present live on site".

We are there – all the more now!
Statements from leading manufacturers and associations on their trade fair participation:
Stephan Nell CEO UNITED GRINDING Group
"For us, we define the core of what we do with precision and passion. The precision of our machines, the passion with which we develop, manufacture and continually improve them, and the enthusiasm for optimizing the tried and tested - to make our customers more successful. Even though we have been
working more and more in recent months on solutions with which we support our customers and provide them with service when it is not possible to be on site quickly: Personal contacts are and remain the basis of a good partnership. We are therefore looking forward to GrindTec, in order to meet our customers and present our latest technologies to them.“
Dr. Stefan Brand, Managing Director VOLLMER WERKE Maschinenfabrik GmbH
„It is good and important for our sector that GrindTec 2020 will take place despite the corona pandemic. And as Vollmer, we have set ourselves ambitious goals, because for the first time we are presenting ourselves in
Augsburg as a fullliner in the field of erosion, grinding and now also laser machining. Despite the current situation, we are firmly convinced that people have a great need for personal exchange and communication. And especially in the B2B environment and for high-tech products, personal dialog plays a very important
role. In 2020, GrindTec will finally offer an exchange platform for the entire sector again. We are hoping for many guests, although we are aware that some of our international customers will unfortunately not be able to come due to various restrictions. Certainly some things will be different now. But the fact that GrindTec is taking place is also an important signal and gives the necessary positive impulses for the economy".
Dirk Wember, Managing Director Haas Schleifmaschinen
"GrindTec is the leading trade fair for grinding technology. We cannot afford to miss it. Out of respect for our customers and the community alone, it is impossible for us to turn our backs on GrindTec, also and especially in times when the wind blows in our faces. We are happy to lead the way, technologically of course, but also with our share of responsibility for this industry, which inspires and feeds us all. Haas is bursting with energy and innovation. We show our customers and interested parties the way into the next productivity cycle."
Marcus Steudel, Sales Manager J. SCHNEEBERGER Maschinen GmbH
"GrindTec 2020 is exactly the right place to experience the newly developed innovations of J. SCHNEEBERGER Maschinen AG. Especially the subject of CAD/CAM software and databases for the simplest possible creation of own grinding programs has received the greatest attention in addition to machine
developments in the recent past. As a result, ergonomics and efficiency of grinding have been redefined and significantly improved. As the world's leading trade fair for the grinding industry, GrindTec 2020 will
provide impulses. Even under current conditions, we expect important signals from this GrindTec to strengthen our sector - not only for exhibitors, but also for visitors, whom we are very much looking forward to. They will feel the upswing that is already evident in all the indices. Here, the safety of the visitors and the
stand personnel is very important both for the trade fair operator and for us.
Thanks to the hygiene concept developed for GrindTec, which includes the permanent exchange of the hall air with 100% fresh air, more is done here than in many a supermarket or restaurant".
Uwe Schmidt, FDPW President – Professional association of precision toolmakers
For a new start we need trade fairs! For several months we met primarily "virtually" using video and telephone conferences, remote diagnosis and online training to stay in touch with manufacturers, suppliers and customers.
This worked well for "emergency operations", but now more than ever we want personal contact, direct exchange and discussion. This is important fo getting a feel for our market, for new technologies and current developments. GrindTec will give the starting signal! It finally brings us together again and sets the course for the future. That is what our sector needs now.
Prof. Wilfried Saxler, Managing Director FDPW – Professional association of precision toolmakers
The mood is rising noticeably. According to the ifo business climate index, German entrepreneurs continue to assess the current situation as better than in previous months. They are looking ahead to the coming period with optimism and hope for better business. And where do you do business? At trade fairs! This is precisely why the GrindTec has the potential to put our sector back on the road to success. It creates space to physically connect products, services and people again after a long time. I am very pleased about this, because lively exchange and personal interaction are immensely important - especially if new things are to be developed and times of crisis overcome. To ensure that all this succeeds, AFAG and Messe Augsburg have drawn up a
coherent hygiene and safety concept. In this way, we can finally meet again - in compliance with the rules of the game - and spread a spirit of optimism for the entire industry. See you in Augsburg!
Dr. Claus Itterheim, Managing Director ISBE GmbH
“Industry meetings like the GrindTec are still essent ial for our economy. We want to exchange ideas, encourage each other and gather ideas on how to proceed. Because there is more to come - that much is certain! Digital communication has proven its worth. But interpersonal nuances, which in personal discussions are often decisive for whether business relationships and partnerships are established, are lost.
Let's meet at the GrindTec! The perfectly sophisticated hygiene concept of AFAG is convincing and encourages us to do so. Let us all together responsibly use this opportunity as a possible new start for trade fairs! We at ISBE GmbH will take this year as an opportunity to promote your digital production and to make you strong for similar events in the future. Because this is exactly what is demanded of us now.”
Jochen Wagner, Managing Director MAW Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH
"The order situation has fortunately improved for many of our customers in recent weeks. Exports, which are so important for Germany, also increased again. A general lockdown as in spring is no longer an issue and the second wave of the virus, if it comes, is still to come. Wouldn't it be time to think about investments again? At the moment many companies understandably still lack the courage or even the capital. But shouldn't you use this crisis to rethink processes and test new technologies? And to be at the forefront again afterwards?
If Germany is to remain an attractive business location, it will be necessary to invest again. After all, it doesn't always have to be large investments. After all, the ancillary processes in particular often involve enormous potential and the investment costs can be presented economically faster and more effectively. We would like to invite you today to visit us at GrindTec 2020 in Augsburg. Plan your visit from November 10 until 13, 2020. At the trade fair you are absolutely safe thanks to the hygiene concept. Virtual is quite nice, but with far more than 500 exhibitors the GrindTec finally gives you the opportunity for personal
contact and exchange. We are looking forward to you and your tasks. Contact us today and get your
free admission ticket."
